Description
The Savage Axis 2 Pro in .270 Winchester (Model 32360) is essentially the same upgraded Axis platform you’ve been going through, but chambered in one of the most traditional and field-proven hunting cartridges available. The .270 Win sits in a very practical middle ground—it offers flatter trajectory and less recoil than .308, while still delivering strong terminal performance on deer-sized game and even larger animals when properly loaded.
This rifle uses a 20-inch barrel, which is shorter than what .270 is traditionally paired with. That means you give up some velocity compared to a 22–24 inch setup, but in exchange you get a noticeably more compact and maneuverable rifle. In real-world hunting environments like woods or stands, that tradeoff generally favors handling over raw speed, especially inside a few hundred yards where most shots occur.
Like the other Axis 2 Pro models, the improvements over older Axis rifles are centered around usability. The redesigned synthetic stock has better grip geometry and a more natural wrist angle, making it easier to control from field positions. The AccuTrigger is included and remains one of the biggest advantages in this price class, allowing you to adjust pull weight safely and get a cleaner break than most budget rifles.
The action retains Savage’s floating bolt head system, which contributes to consistent lockup and practical accuracy. These rifles are not refined in the way a higher-end 110 is, but they routinely perform above their price bracket when paired with good ammunition.
It is optic ready, but it does NOT come with a scope.
The receiver is drilled and tapped for scope bases or a rail, so you’ll need to add your own optic. Like the other Axis 2 Pro rifles, this is not an XP package, so nothing is mounted from the factory.
From a practical standpoint compared to the others you’ve asked about, the .270 version is a very balanced hunting choice. It recoils less than .308 but hits harder and carries better at distance than .243. Compared to 6.5 Creedmoor, it’s a bit more traditional and slightly less efficient ballistically, but still very capable across typical hunting distances. Compared to the straight-wall options like .350 or .400 Legend, this is a much more versatile cartridge that can stretch farther while still being perfectly effective up close.
If you’re narrowing it down, this is basically the “classic hunting rifle” option in that lineup—simple, effective, and hard to outgrow.
